At Sentiens, most of what we treat is depression and anxiety. For many patients, day hospital is great alternative to being in an overnight facility. We have patients who have come from an inpatient unit, but need extra support or a step- down approach.
Sentiens has successfully managed up to 80% of the patients in its day hospital that have comparable acuity to those patients admitted into overnight inpatient facilities.
We would like to welcome you to the final issue of the Sentiens Newsletter for 2008.
Over the past year, we have attracted many more skilled mental health professionals including psychiatrists, psychologists and occupational therapists. We welcome all our new team members; we have both female and male consultants offering broad coverage across a range of adult disorders.
We are delighted to welcome Dr Russell Hoyle who is practicing with us full-time. Dr Hoyle is practising in the area of General Psychiatry and Workers’ Compensation.
As clinicians, our objectives must be to get the best long-term outcomes for the patient. Patients with residual symptoms of major depressive disorder experience worse outcomes (Judd et al. 1998). Achieving optimal results involves minimising side effects, achieving a return to optimal function, minimising risk of relapse, and gaining symptom resolution in these areas to make sure our patients achieve wellness and remain free from depression. Monitoring progress is also an essential component of this effort.
